A couple of weeks ago I had the fantastic opportunity to shoot a wedding exclusively with my 4×5 camera on film and polaroid! A friend of mine was photographing a wedding and asked if I’d like to come shoot the bride and groom portraits on 4×5 before the ceremony. I LOVE shooting 4×5 and I LOVE the bride and groom portrait part of a wedding day so it was the perfect combination. Here are a few of the shots from the day that I really liked:

Details took me a long time. I was a “portrait” photographer and forcing myself to take pictures of flowers, shoes and cakes didn’t seem natural at all. But the details play a very important role in telling the story of the day and showing what things make the couple unique. I’ve spent the past year really tweaking my approach to details and finding ways to capture the things that a couple worked on and planned for a year in a memorable and interesting way. This shot of a cake is very recent and absolutely one of my favorites. I had the time at this wedding (as I was one of about 8 photographers covering it) to set up the 4×5 and take some really (I think) beautiful details in a way that I love to shoot. Finding ways to make things like the details more fun to shoot makes them turn out more beautiful and helps me keep things interesting.

I posted this already today on my other blog, and I typically try not to double post things but I think this one was deserving. My good friend and fellow photographer Caleb Chancey got married this weekend and it was amazing. It was amazing because of the people, the place, the festivities, the music…but it was also amazing because instead of having one person do his wedding photos, Caleb got all of his friends (we’re all in the photography business) to split up the shooting all day. Cary Norton, Bob Miller, Bryan Johnson, Alan Barton, Rob Culpepper, myself, Paul Bryant and Branden Lower all took part in the documentation of the day. It was nuts. Here’s one of my 4×5 frames that I just ran from the weekend…more to come soon.

Meet Josh and Brooke! This lovely couple just got married this past weekend. We had so much fun with them, and can’t wait to get the film back. Here is a sneak peak of the day. Polaroids make such a fun way to document a day like this!
